Payment consulting, Amsterdam

Payments aren't ops.
They're growth.

I help companies turn payments from a background cost centre into a lever: for better authorisation rates, a better checkout, and better unit economics.

OPSSTRATEGYGROWTH

Most companies treat payments as plumbing.

It gets bolted on, handed to whoever's free, and revisited only when something breaks. Meanwhile it's quietly touching almost every number that matters to the business.

  • Authorisation rates that decide how much revenue you actually keep
  • Checkout UX that decides whether a sale finishes at all
  • Vendor costs and contracts that quietly eat into margin
  • Compliance and risk exposure across every market you're in
What I do

Hands-on help, not a slide deck.

I work directly in the problem (with your team, your providers, and your contracts) rather than handing over a strategy document and disappearing.

Typical shape of an engagement: audit what's happening today → agree the strategy → sit with your team through selection, negotiation, and go-live.

PSP

Selection & consolidation

Cut through provider sprawl and negotiate group-level deals you can actually manage.

EMB

Embedded payments strategy

Design how payments sit inside your product, not bolted on beside it.

POS

Rollout & go-live

Get new payment methods and markets live: from RFP through to launch.

AUD

Payments audit

A clear-eyed read on where you're leaking auth rate, margin, or trust.

ADV

Ongoing advisory

A regular sounding board as things change: new markets, new providers, new pricing conversations.

Use cases

What this looks like in practice.

A few shapes recent engagements have taken, with details generalised where they're client-confidential.

Consolidation

18 PSPs → 2

Situation

A multi-brand European group was running payments through 18 different providers, with no shared strategy across brands.

Approach

Consolidated onto two group-level deals, negotiated directly with Adyen and Stripe.

Result

A simpler stack, real negotiating leverage, and one coherent strategy across brands.

Rollout

POS live across 3 countries

Situation

A group needed in-store payments live across Germany, Austria and Spain, on a tight timeline.

Approach

Ran the RFP, selected Mollie, and led the go-live end-to-end.

Result

Point-of-sale payments live in three markets, on one supported rollout.

Strategy

Payments as a growth layer

Situation

An existing gateway sat underused: a technical layer, not a strategic one.

Approach

Co-designed a group-wide embedded payments strategy built on top of it.

Result

One coherent payments layer, replacing a patchwork of one-off integrations.

Negotiation

Renegotiating from a position of leverage

Situation

A growing merchant was on legacy pricing that no longer reflected its volume or size.

Approach

Built the data case, benchmarked terms, and led a direct pricing renegotiation with the provider.

Result

Materially better terms, and a repeatable playbook for the next renewal.

About me

Jelle de Jong.

Interim Payment Director at Team.Blue

I've worked payments from the inside at Adyen. I worked with merchants including Coolblue, AJAX, ValPay, Burton and Slice. And from the product side building at LegalThings, before founding E-RAMP. Now I work hands-on with companies who want payments to actually help them grow, not just process transactions.

Based in Amsterdam, working with teams across Europe.

Now Founder, E-RAMP: Payment Consulting
7+ yrs Adyen. Working with merchants including Coolblue, AJAX, ValPay, Burton and Slice
Before LegalThings. Product side, building rather than consulting

How I work

  • In the detail, not just the deck. I sit in the negotiation, not just around it.
  • Independent. I'm not on a provider's payroll, so the advice isn't either.
  • Plain language. You'll always know exactly what's being recommended and why.
Book intake
